I have, for most of my adult life, always wanted to travel on that stretch of road known as the Pacific Coast Highway. It’s something I’ve dreamt about – less because it has a Thelma & Louise ring to it, more because all the great car ads were filmed there. No, seriously, it’s apparently stunning and with clear blue skies, a clear mind and as I write this from a Japanese car (more later) not a huge amount of traffic.
The plan is to take a leisurely drive there, walk around, chill, eat and relax. Not unlike LA really, but perhaps a little more down to earth; a chance to switch off even more.
There’s a strong chance I’ll live-blog much of this from this outstanding eee pc and Verizon USB modem as we go.
Update. Well obviously there was no live blogging, the views were too much, the race to San Diego too intense, but let me tell you this, never before has so much been crammed into one day.
View from a ‘Scenic Overlook’. This is American for ‘lay-by’ and is usually occupied with large hikers (isn’t that human tortology) truckers and minibuses.
This is a seal, and it is not married to Heidi Klum. But was featured at La Jolla Cove, a stunning beach in San Diego where humans stay off the beach and the seals have the run of the land. It rocked.
Following lunch by the ocean/bay it was off to Mission Bay Beach, a stunning space of what felt like 100 foot high palms and certainly million dollar views. The sunset was watched, well missed actually as I gave up hope and read the paper and by the time we left the most amazing red sky was in the rear view mirror.
Nothing rounds off a day like a stop at a Outlet Mall, and we did. Carlsbad, and it was as good as any mall in the UK (or shopping centre as we like to call them).
Thai for dinner; something of which I think I will never Thai-er.
